Overall it relates to a group of four other dies with difficult to read uncertain names, they are BIC:o P292, BOITo P7, LIE:CI P277 and Opposed R P276. All are recorded on cups suggesting that the name was shortened to fit the base size. By some way the most common Name on TN in Britain with at least 65 stamps representing 23 different dies, the Jul(l)ios I assemblage exceeds the complete stamp-lists for any other British site. Probably the most unexpected fact however is that the range of dies represented at Colchester far exceeds that so far recorded for all continental sites. Stamps are recorded at both Haltern and Hofheim demonstrating that the name was used for at least two generations between AD1 and AD45 whilst the form range implies a longer span of nearer 65 years.

For an early detailed discussion on the potter or potters Jul(l)ios / Julius see Rigby 1981. Subsequent finds at Colchester on the Culver Street and Gosbecks Sites have added complications to the date range with new 2-line dies on Cam form 16 platters. Dies only represented at Colchester could indicate that a potter Jul(l)ios worked there possibly even in the pre-Claudian period. The current shortage of continental finds is more likely to be the result of inadequate sampling. One likely contender if IVLLOS P25 with dies on both TN and a CW copy.

The implication is that Vritves is the slave of Cincos. Vritves certainly worked alone using several 1-line dies and probably worked at Rheims. Stamps of a potter Cincos from dies cut by a different hand were excavated at the Mourmelon-le-Petit in the Marne-Vesle potteries

This potter worked on a large scale and was a major supplier to Britain, probably through Camulodunum. He seems to have specialised in large TN platters, Cam forms 2 and 5B. The version Medi may be an abbreviation of the name Medilo or Medico recorded on a Cam 56 cup in TR and found at Sezanne, Marne. Although the letters are smaller the die style with the crossed D is the same. There is also a stamp from Die 01A02 on a mortarium rim found at the Bank of England site and now in the Museum of London. It may be a British product made at Brockley Hill in the pre-Flavian period and therefore the stamp evidence that a Gaulish potter moved to Britain or established a branch firm in the Claudian period.

Die group 01A is limited to large platters in TN while die groups 02B and 03C occur chiefly on Cam 5 platters in TR. Doe group 04C is recorded on the widest form range in bot TR and TN. 308 BIILIV/\I BELIVAS Bellius as the generic name occurs in a variety of spellings under the base of thin-walled beakers. Versions reading BELLI or BELLIA are also recorded on beakers in black fine sand-tempered wares in Britain. BELLIAXVS is also limited to beakers at Bavay the likely production site. There is no stamp evidence that he produced cups and platters in TR and TN.
